Citizens of the Year 2008 Parks and Trails Voluteers
Every year many volunteers help the parks and trails in many ways
from organized clubs, "adopting" a park, picking up trash, weeding exotics.
Without these citizens our parks and trails are poorer. Here are the
CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS we recognized
in 2008 that support and help make our parks and trails wonderful places.

Minneapolis To Follow St. Paul with Park Dedication Ordinance
The Minneapolis City Council is taking up a Park Dedication fee
for development in the city. This follows the example of St. Paul which passed park dedication on development in March, 2007 which pioneered a new direction for
large city policy. Suburbs have used this funding mechanism to
build city park systems for decades but it is not common in already developed
large cities.
Battle Creek Cross Country Ski Snow Equipment Fund
The Friends of the Parks and Trails of St. Paul and Ramsey County are
acting as a fiscal agent to assist Ramsey County in fund raising for
snow making equipment for XC ski trails at Battle Creek. Hundreds of
students on local teams depend on the ski course at Battle Creek and
snow conditions are too variable for regular practice. Snow making
equipment will help local teams practice and help the sport.
